Who is Jesus? A Lenten Journey through John – Day 20
Read John 13:1-20
Feet are gross. Especially feet which walk around dusty roads filled with trash and sewage. Which is why it was a task given to the lowest slave, to clean the feet of one’s guests. It was a job no one wanted.
And Jesus did it. The Son of God washed the disciples’ feet. The Master took on the most humiliating task. He bent down and washed their feet, setting an example for them to follow. As disciples we are called to love Jesus and serve others like him.
Feet today are still pretty gross. Maybe not as gross as they were in Jesus’ time, but they are still pretty gross. Jesus set the ultimate example for us of service. How can we serve those around us?
How will you serve others around you during Lent? Maybe giving people free pedicures isn’t your thing, but serving others should be.
So…go and do it.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for setting for us the ultimate example of what it means to love and serve others in Jesus. Help fuel me with a desire to serve those around me. Give me a servant’s heart so you may be glorified in all things. Amen.
