Who is Jesus? A Lenten Devotional through John – Day 30
Read John 21:1-25
In the beginning was the Word, and at the end was grace and love. Really, isn’t this what we saw throughout the gospel of John? This gospel is a story of love and grace: God’s love for the world, embodied in Jesus Christ, and offered to all through him.
The gospel ends with Peter, restored by grace and sent to love. Just as Peter denied Jesus three times, so Jesus commands him to feed his sheep three times. Scholars tell us that this is a reversal of the denials. It is also the essence of the Gospel for all of us: we are restored by grace, and sent to love.
Prayer
Lord, thank you that you give your grace freely to us, and restore us when we fall short of your commands. Send us out to feed your sheep, love your people, and share the Good News. Amen.
