21 Day Stewardship Devotional Day 11

Read Matthew 6:24
Most people believe that they can multitask. In other words, we think that we can do two things at the same time. Research shows, however, that the human mind is singularly focused. We are designed to focus on one thing at a time. So what happens when we try to do two things at the same time? We don’t do either thing well.
Even though research tells us this, and if we’re honest with ourselves, experience does, too, we still try to do two or three things at once. We try to drive and send text messages, talk on the phone and write email, or talk to a friend and look at one’s phone. When we multitask, we aren’t focused on the things that matter, and the things that are most important to us.
I think Jesus’ teaching in this verse is pointing out the same thing: we can’t love money and love the Lord at the same time. They will end up in opposition. So how are we to see our money? As a blessing, as a gift, and as a tool. A blessing and gift from God, and a tool to use for His glory.
Generous God, thank you for the blessing and gift of money. Help me to use it as an important tool for your glory, and keep it from distracting me from loving you. Amen.
