Who is Jesus: A Lenten Journey through John – Day 1
Read John 1:1-18
Where does God’s story of salvation for humanity begin? John tells us that it begins before the beginning of the world. The Word of God was there before the creation, and everything came to be through this eternal Word.
Why does John start there? Because God’s saving work is not an accident, or a plan slapped together by at the last minute. Salvation is part of God’s intention for the world. It is a story of creation and love. Even though God’s good creation didn’t know and accept him, God still reached out to save humanity and offer salvation to all who believe.
In Jesus, we see the fullness of God’s saving work for us. Throughout this gospel, as we come to know Jesus better, remember that it is God’s plan and design that brought us our Savior.
Prayer
Loving God, I thank you because you first loved me. Out of love you gave your Son to us, and I ask that as I study this gospel I would come to know, understand, and above all, love you more. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
