Who is Jesus? A Lenten Journey through John – Day 13
Read John 8:1-30
This passage starts at the Temple, early in the morning. Looking for a fight, the scribes and Pharisees brought to him a woman caught in adultery. Strong opinions and differing viewpoints rose to the surface. They chose this moment, and this woman, to point out Jesus’ lack of seriousness. In a tense exchange, Jesus shifts the focus, causing everyone to look inward to a deeper reality: the need to be set free from sin.
How many times have you longed for clarity on a social issue, or resolution to an ongoing situation with someone you know or love? How often do you feel frustrated or troubled after listening to the evening news?
When your heart is troubled, do you pray? Do you believe your prayers can influence and change things happening hundreds, of miles away? Jesus is the “light of the world.” He can change a situation and move people’s hearts like no one else. He brings light into darkness. Whenever your heart is troubled, remember to pray.
Prayer
Dear Lord, we live in a world with many troubles and difficulties. My heart is heavy today because of (mention any social issues or people on your heart). I pray that your light will shine in these situations and in these people’s lives. Set us free from darkness and turn our hearts toward you, Lord. Amen.
