Who is Jesus? A Lenten Journey through John – Day 25
Read John 16:5-33
We have tremendous hope in Christ. But we also know that life doesn’t always go as planned. Jesus gives us two promises in this passage. When Jesus tells his disciples that he is going away, he gives the first promise: he is sending the Advocate. Jesus promises that, even though he is going away, they will be OK. The Advocate who will do great and mighty things in the world through them.
The second promise is that there will be pain, problems, heartache. You’re probably thinking that’s not exactly hopeful promise. You’re right, it isn’t. But it’s also not the end. Jesus ’ next words in verse 33 are, “I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you will face persecution, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
We will go through our share of heartache, but fear not – no matter how grave the circumstances, Jesus is with you and offers peace in your darkest hour. Turn to the light we have in Christ and you will find peace.
Prayer
Lord, we yearn for the peace you offer to us in Christ. When things get too much for me to bear, remind me that you are here. Help me to share the peace of Christ with people around me. Let me reflect your light that overcomes the darkness of this world. Amen.
