What if… Day 4
Read I Timothy 6:17-19
Few of us would claim to be rich. We see people who have more that we do, so in comparison, we are not rich. In addition, we live in a culture that is all about acquisition. If we aren’t getting farther ahead, we are told, then we are falling behind.
In a global perspective, though, most of us are wealthy. We don’t worry about where our next meal will come from, we have consistent and safe shelter, we can afford life’s necessities, and many luxuries, too.
In our passage, Paul reminds us, the rich, not to “set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on the God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”
How do we trust in our wealth, rather than in the Lord? What is one step you can take to put your trust in the Lord today and in the coming year?
Prayer
Father, it is easy to trust in myself and my wealth. I know that this leads me away from trust in you. Remind me that you are my only sure hope. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
