What if… Day 20

Fpcambler   -

Read 2 Corinthians 9:1-8

One of the themes in the scripture is imitation. We are called to imitate Jesus, Paul encourages his readers to imitate him, we are told to be “imitators of God.” Imitating God shows the world what God is really like. One of God’s attributes is generosity. God gives freely and gladly.

In this passage Paul is writing to the Corinthians about making a generous donation to God’s people. It is an invitation for the Corinthians to be imitators of God. We are given the same invitation: to give generously in imitation of the Lord. This kind of generous sharing can help us to develop an abundance mentality. We are reminded that those who sow sparingly also reap sparingly. To be like God is to sow generously, and to do it cheerfully, looking forward to the harvest God will bring!

Prayer

Glorious and generous God, I see your goodness all around: in the beauty of nature, in your provision for me, and in your gifts of grace. I want to respond with gratitude, joy, and generosity. Make me a cheerful and generous giver. Use generosity as a tool to make me more like you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
