Who is Jesus? A Lenten Journey through John – Day 11
Read John 7:1-31
This passage focuses on a controversy about Jesus’ identity: who is he? There is a variety of opinion in this passage about him. Is he the Messiah? Some seem to think so. Is he a charlatan? The religious leaders say so. The crowd puzzles over Jesus because he does things that the Messiah will do, but they retain doubts because they thought the Messiah would be from a more mysterious place.
Jesus tells us exactly who he is in verses 28-29, “Then Jesus cried out as he was teaching in the temple, ‘You know me, and you know where I am from. I have not come on my own. But the one who sent me is true, and you do not know him. I know him; because I am from him, and he sent me.’”
Jesus claims that he is the Messiah, the promised one, sent by God for the salvation of the world. Do you believe it?
Prayer
Lord, give us the vision to see who you really are, and to trust that Jesus is the one sent by you for our salvation. Help us to trust you in a world that is full of doubts.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
